Captain Jose Cesena is a Cabo San Lucas native who is passionate about fishing. He credits all he knows to his older brother, an experienced Captain who also charters his boats. For Jose, fishing is a wonderful moment of contemplation and adrenaline. To contemplate the ocean, its beauty and strength and the rush which comes with finding, hooking and landing his target species. He loves creating new experiences for anglers and especially likes showing beginners the ropes. He finds sportfishing as a highly attractive sport because he loves competing with other boats, and himself, trying to produce in his fishing more and more catches. And although his favorite fish to catch is Dorado, he does have experience with landing Marlin from his panga. His largest to date is a 300 lbs Blue Marlin released.
Jose is also passionate about keeping fishing sustainable. He is always aware of handling fish correctly to increase chances of survival on release, especially for species like Roosterfish and Marlin. Jose is trained in proper tagging of these species, so If this is something you are interested in please mention this to your reservation agent.
When he is not working his hobbies include fishing and swimming anyway!
A Panga is a skiff with an outboard motor. This type of vessel has a simple fighting chair as well as extra seating for 2 or 3 passengers and just one crew member (Captain). Pangas regularly have a "porta potty", rather than an enclosed toilet & some shade. A regular trip is for 5 hours & usually close to shore, though you may travel anywhere from 1 to 10 miles parallel to the coast, generally up the Pacific side, depending on the fishing season.
The tackle offered is light, from 20 lbs. to 40 lbs. test, depending on the season & species targeted. There are many inshore species that are worth fishing for, some of them are delicious to eat and some of them are fantastic to fight and release! Keep in mind that your catch can be cooked five different ways at Captain Tony's restaurant on the marina next door to the Pisces Reservation Office.
Cabo waters offer a rich variety of smaller game fish such as Spanish Mackerel (sierra), Rooster fish, Red Snapper, Jack Crevelle, Yellow Tail, Rock fish, Lady Fish, Amber Jack, Grouper, Trigger fish, Dorado, Yellow Fin Tuna and you might even be able to fight a Marlin or a Sailfish if they stray closer to shore.
